“Environmental Advocates of New York applauds Comptroller Tom DiNapoli for his innovative approach to getting one of the nation’s largest – and dirtiest – energy producers to commit to carbon pollution cuts and undertaking their future planning in the context of climate change.
Just one week after Governor Cuomo made his most significant climate commitment to date, to reduce carbon emissions a full 80 percent by 2050, Comptroller DiNapoli demonstrated an important tool in reaching that goal: buy-in from industries who stand to lose the most from their own pollution.
Climate change is an economy-wide destabilizing force. The Comptroller’s common-sense appeal to stakeholders is one state financial chiefs nationwide should follow.”
