September 18-19, 2015
(Long Island, NY) Cornell Cooperative Extension of Nassau County (CCE-NC), in conjunction with its mission to build healthy lifestyles and communities, is hosting a Fall Festival at our East Meadow Educational Farm, with a focus on horticultural education and environmental awareness. The festival will take place on Friday, September 18th (1:00pm to 6:00pm) and on Saturday, September 19th (9:00am to 4:00pm) at the Horticulture Center and Demonstration Gardens at East Meadow Farm (832 Merrick Avenue, East Meadow, NY 11554.)
On both days, locally grown vegetables, cookies and quiche will be available for purchase at the East Meadow Community Farm Stand. Food and seasonal items like roasted corn, pumpkins, apples, cider, apple cider donuts, and more will also be on sale. A variety of garden tours and lectures will be held by master gardeners. We will also be doing a garlic tasting, and an apple pie contest.
Demonstrations will be given by our Nutrition Educators on various topics, including healthy eating, and identifying garden grown vegetables. Children’s activities will also be available, including story telling, fairy garden building, pumpkin picking, decorating gourd birdhouses and more. In addition, we will have a booth showcasing our 4-H Camp in Riverhead, NY.
There will also be a garden flea market, environmentally-oriented not-for-profits providing information to the public, and vendors selling Long Island grown and produced items, plus some homemade goods. Event organizers are seeking vendors who make their own products for sale at the fair. Vendor spots are available for purchase.
