(Huntington, NY) Councilwoman Susan A. Berland honored Luke Goldman, a 6th grader and talented defenseman for the Town of Huntington Recreation League at the Dix HIlls Ice Rink, for coming to the rescue of a friend who had fallen into a frozen pond when the ice broke beneath him. Thinking quickly, Luke acted to save his friend who’d been submerged into the water and through his actions helped both escape serious harm. Luke then succeeded in ensuring that his friend received proper medical attention.

“Luke’s actions set an example for responsible behavior in a crisis and heroism in the face of danger,” Councilwoman Berland commented. “His quick thinking and bravery helped save a life. This situation also draws attention to the potential danger that exists at frozen ponds this time of year; everyone needs to be careful, because not everyone will be so lucky as to have Luke close by.”
