(Huntington, NY) Councilwoman Susan A. Berland welcomed Webelo Troop 310 to Town Hall Wednesday afternoon to participate in a mock Town Board meeting. The scouts role-played as councilmembers and constituents while acting out the “public hearing” portion of a Town Board meeting. During the process, the Scouts learned about the duties of both constituents and councilmembers living in and representing the Town of Huntington.

In addition to the “public hearing” portion of the “Mock Town Board” meeting, Councilwoman Berland arranged for a representative from the Town of Huntington’s Department of Public Safety to give a presentation which concluded with a tour of the building’s video surveillance room.

“Every year, I look forward to bringing Scouts to the Town and engaging them in this fun and interactive “Mock Town Board” meeting,” commented Councilwoman Berland. “Learning about government and civic responsibility should begin at an early age in order to get our youth interested in using their voice in our democratic society. The Webelos, parents and troop leaders all participated in the ‘Board meeting’ and learned about (various Town departments). It was a fun time for all.”
