Statement from 3rd Senate District candidate Tom Croci (R,C,I)
(Patchogue, NY) A recent cover story in the NY Post outlined a radical plan by a New York City Democratic Senator, Gustavo Rivera, to give illegal immigrants the right to vote, serve on juries, run for public office and even access taxpayer funded welfare benefits.
This proposed legislation would also permit those in this country illegally the right to get professional licenses, allowing them to practice medicine, dentistry and other professions. This is a costly and shortsighted bill that would grant hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants the same rights and benefits that hardworking, law-abiding New York residents have. While legal residents of New York are having difficulty affording college and are grappling with crushing student loan debt, this legislation would allow illegal aliens eligibility for college tuition assistance using our tax dollars.
Islip Town Supervisor and Candidate for State Senate, Tom Croci, the grandson of immigrants, noted that this legislation does not recognize those hardworking New Yorkers who are struggling to make ends meet themselves, and those Americans who immigrated to our country legally.
“I hear from residents every day begging for tax relief,” said Croci. This legislation would take New York in the wrong direction. Using taxpayer dollars to advance the personal gain and success of those who are ignoring our state and federal laws is just wrong – especially when it’s on the backs of hardworking, taxpaying citizens. As a member of the Senate, for the benefit of all law-abiding citizens, I would have to oppose this legislation”
Croci added, “If this is the best that Senate Democrats can do for the people of this great State then it is obvious that they have the plan wrong for New York. If Democrats were to regain control the Senate and our entire state government falls in their hands, this bill will be approved and signed into law very quickly. If elected, I won’t let that happen.”
