Support from three Democratic County Legislators in the 1st Congressional District
(Long Island, NY) Suffolk County Planning Commission Chair, businessman and former federal prosecutor Dave Calone announced today that three Democratic members of the Suffolk County Legislature from the 1st Congressional District are backing his campaign for Congress.
Legislator Sarah Anker from Mt. Sinai, Legislator Rob Calarco from Patchogue and Legislator Al Krupski from Cutchogue represent areas spanning the Towns of Brookhaven, Riverhead and Southold. They join Assemblyman Steve Englebright, the only Democratic member of the State Legislature from the 1st Congressional District, who also recently endorsed Calone’s candidacy.
Legislator Sarah Anker: “I endorse Dave Calone to represent the 1st Congressional District. Dave has deep roots in eastern Suffolk County – specifically in my district. He grew up in Mt. Sinai and his mother was an elementary school teacher in the Shoreham-Wading River School District. I have worked closely with Dave to promote renewable energy in our region while making sure that large scale solar installations meet the needs of the community.”
Legislator Rob Calarco (Democratic Majority Leader): “I have worked with Dave Calone in his role as Chair of the Suffolk County Planning Commission to advocate for revitalizing our downtowns, encouraging a housing mix that enables young people to stay here, and protecting our waters – all critical issues to my constituents on the South Shore. As the Majority Leader of the Legislature, I am particularly thankful for Dave’s long-time involvement in the Suffolk County Democratic Party and I strongly support his campaign for Congress.”
Legislator Al Krupski: “Dave Calone has been a leader in tackling issues affecting the North Fork. For example, the Agriculture Capital Equipment Grant Program that he initiated and that we shaped together along with various local agriculture organizations is helping to encourage the next generation of farmers to enter the local agriculture industry. It is exactly the kind of innovative idea that we need to support our local economy and provide ways for our young people to stay here in eastern Suffolk County. That is why I support Dave’s bid for Congress.”
