(Rockville Centre, NY) Rockville Centre Mayor Francis X. Murray and the Village Board of Trustees named July 15, 2013 “Rebecca Tolan Day” to honor the brave actions of Rebecca Tolan on June 25, 2013 when she saved the life of Rockville Centre resident Mary Dowd who was drowning after she had been caught in a riptide at Atlantic Beach.

Rebecca, an emerging senior at Sacred Heart Academy, is a rookie lifeguard who was off duty at the time of the incident.
“Rebecca showed true heroism during a treacherous situation,” said Mayor Murray.
