(Long Island, NY) Suffolk County Police have arrested a woman for driving while intoxicated with two young children in her vehicle, following a motor vehicle crash that seriously injured her niece.
Latanya Mowatt was operating a 2004 Nissan Maxima southbound on Brookdale Avenue when she apparently lost control of the vehicle, and struck a utility pole and two unoccupied parked vehicles. Her vehicle then overturned and her six-year-old niece was ejected.

Mowatt and her two passengers were transported by ambulance to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore. Mowatt and her 8-year-old daughter suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The 6-year-old suffered serious internal injuries.
Mowatt, 25, of Deer Park, was arrested and charged with DWI, Aggravated DWI (Leandra’s Law) and two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
The vehicle was impounded for a safety check. The investigation is continuing.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty. Defendants are entitled to a fair trial with the burden on the prosecution to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
