UPDATE: The female passenger, Corinne Maloney, 34, of Centereach, died on September 3 as a result of injuries sustained during the crash.

(Long Island, NY) Suffolk County Police Fourth Squad detectives are investigating a two-vehicle crash that critically injured a male driver and his female passenger in Lake Grove on Wednesday, September 2.
Christopher Ferchland, 34, was operating a 2007 Lincoln MKL pick-up truck traveling westbound on Route 25 when his vehicle struck a 2015 Honda Crosstour, driven by Jeanette Acevedo, 50, who was traveling eastbound on Route 25 and attempting to make a left hand turn into the Smithaven Mall. The pick-up truck then hit a utility pole at approximately 7 p.m.

Ferchland, of Farmingville, and his female passenger, were transported via Nesconset Ambulance to Stony Brook University Hospital where they are listed in critical condition. Acevedo, of Brentwood, and her female passenger were also transported to Stony Brook University Hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks and the investigation is continuing.
