All candidates on Nov. 5 ballot have completed environmental survey, underscoring importance of green issues
(EAST HAMPTON, NY) All five candidates running for East Hampton Town Board and Supervisor positions have submitted environmental questionnaire responses to the East Hampton Environmental Coalition (EHEC).
The completed questionnaires can now be viewed by the media and general public by following this link, or visiting http://www.nylcvef.org/easthampton
The 28-question survey polled candidates about such town environmental policy issues as groundwater & surface water, hazard mitigation & coastal issues, dark skies, quiet skies and habitat protection & stewardship, as well as the candidates’ environmental credentials and philosophies.
“We are hoping that in this year following Hurricane Sandy’s assault on our shores, candidates will again take this opportunity to articulate their intentions for environmental preservation in our town,” said T. James Matthews, Chair of the Northwest Alliance. “We thank all five candidates for their participation”
Marcia Bystryn, president of the New York League of Conservation Voters Education Fund, added: “Now that the candidates’ have put their environmental views in writing, it’s up to the citizens of East Hampton to get the facts and find out where the candidates stand. The questionnaires are up on our Web site and we encourage everyone to read them before they vote on Tuesday, November 5th.”
The EHEC is comprised of 12 independent environmental groups representing thousands of local citizens. These organizations — some in force for more than 40 years — have worked to preserve and improve the natural environment in East Hampton and have provided guidance for the development of the municipal government’s environmental policy.
The EHEC includes the following groups:
