(Sag Harbor, NY) Brian Halweil and Stephen Munshin, publishers of Edible East End, Edible Manhattan and Edible Brooklyn, have announced the launch of Edible Long Island with the September 26th print edition http://www.ediblelongisland.

The duo launched Edible East End in Spring of 2005, when the Edible brand was just three years old. Originating out of Southern California in 2002 and now boasting 80 Edible brands, Edible East End was the third to publish – becoming one of its most successful. The demand for local news about organic, artisanal and sustainable food lead the team to launch Edible Brooklyn (2006), then Edible Manhattan (2008) shortly thereafter.
“In both our Edible East End and Edible Brooklyn editorial planning we were finding more stories in Nassau County and western Suffolk, and more Long Island products (beer, pickles, ice cream) being sold on the East End and in the city. We have more and more reader interest from Long Island zip codes. And we realize it’s one of the biggest media markets in nation – a couple million people, including many young families, eager to discover the local food movement and make it part of their lifestyle, “ stated Halweil.
The Edible brands are award-winning magazines, which promote the abundance of local foods by season. Special attention is given to small family farmers, farmer’s market vendors and local chefs for their dedication to producing the highest quality, organic, fresh and seasonal foods.
“As one example, Long Island Wine Country still hasn’t broken into the big wine market in Nassau County, which is crazy. We want to help that happen, just as we helped LI Wine Country break into Brooklyn. Our Long Island readership is hungry, the advertiser base is eager, and there are many great stories to tell and events to hold, including Long Island Uncorked and Good Beer Long Island, which we plan to roll out in 2014. So it seemed like a geographic gap, or a low-hanging geographic fruit, in our family of titles, “ states Halweil.
The events offer readers a chance to personally interact with vendors and are enormously popular from Manhattan to Montauk. Print runs for Edible East End (40k), Edible Brooklyn (40k) and Edible Manhattan (100k) are stable; Edible Long Island print run figures to land somewhere in between once established.
