Brashich Recognized By United Hospital Fund
Eastern Long Island Hospital (ELIH) announces the selection of Neboysha R. Brashich, Board of Trustees and Government Affairs Representative, for the 2015 United Hospital Fund Distinguished Trustee Award. Established in 1991, the award recognizes extraordinary service, leadership and a deep commitment to not-for-profit hospitals in the New York region. Neb Brashich received this honor at the Waldorf-Astoria at a special reception and awards luncheon earlier this month.
Brashich began serving on the Board of Trustees at ELIH in 1993 and served as Chairman of the Board from 1998 through 2003. Prior to his BOT appointment, Neb was an active member of the Development/Community Relations Committee where he co-chaired several Summer Galas and helped establish a wellness program for seniors (1990). A natural leader, Neb first served as Treasurer on the Board of Trustees and Chairman of the Finance Committee before serving as Chairman of the Board for three consecutive terms. In that capacity, Neb represented ELIH on the Peconic Health Corporation (PHC) Board, a former parent corporation of ELIH and two other East End hospitals.

Well-respected by his peers, Neb has been involved in many community organizations on the North Fork. His leadership roles have included Chairman of the Southold Transportation Commission, Chairman of the North Fork Promotion Council, Co-chair of The Arts in Southold Town and Director of the East End Transportation Council. Neb was recognized by the Suffolk County Legislature in 1999 as “Volunteer of the Year” and was awarded the prestigious Theodore Roosevelt Award, established by the Nassau-Suffolk Hospital Council, for his extraordinary contributions to his community hospital in 2000.
In addition, Neb served as Governor, Secretary/Treasurer and Vice-President on the HANYS/Healthcare Trustees of New York State Board as well as the Committee on Governance (COG) while still serving on the COG Leadership Development Committee for the American Hospital Association.
As a Government Affairs Representative, Neb is a strong advocate for Eastern Long Island Hospital. Neb believes in sensible healthcare reform, and has proactively sought solutions for keeping essential services local. He has also worked to coordinate efficiencies with other community and state hospitals in the area while reducing the duplication of services on the East End of Long Island based on the recommendations of the Berger Commission.
“Neb Brashich has been a driving force in the community and a great ally for Eastern Long Island Hospital for the past 25 years. His healthcare advocacy efforts have helped to keep key health services at ELIH viable for the residents of the North Fork and Shelter Island. It is only fitting that for the Hospital’s 110th Anniversary in 2015 that Neb be recognized as a distinguished Trustee,” states Paul J. Connor III, President/CEO.
Brashich received his Bachelor of Arts in Economics/History from Trinity College in Hartford, CT and his Master of Arts in International Relations from The Johns Hopkins University in Washington, DC. Brashich served for twenty-five years in the United States Foreign Service before retiring to the North Fork in 1988. He currently resides in Cutchogue with his wife, Prunella, a volunteer for the hospital’s Auxiliary. Together, they have two grown sons and seven grandchildren.
The United Hospital Fund’s primary mission is to shape positive change in health care for the people of New York through the advancement of policies and programs that promote high-quality, patient-centered health care services that are accessible to all.
