November 22: Transforming lives, communities and the criminal justice system, plus toy drive for prison families
(Long Island, NY) On Sunday, November 22, Albert Jones, a former prisoner who is now a licensed counselor at the Osborne Association in the Bronx, will speak at the Ethical Humanist Society of Long Island at 11 am about the work of the Osborne Association, a nonprofit criminal justice organization that provides vital services to the accused, prisoners, former prisoners, and their families.
Jones will highlight the effective work of the Association in providing a broad range of treatment, education and vocational services to more than 89,000 people a year. As the oldest and most experienced organization in New York State serving men and women involved with the criminal justice system, Osborne operates at several sites throughout the state, including the Bronx, Brooklyn, Poughkeepsie, Rikers Island, and in several state correctional facilities.
Additionally attendees are asked to bring unwrapped new or gently used toys to be distributed by Osborne to children of people who are currently incarcerated. Those who wish to bring toys in advance of November 22nd can call the Ethical Society office at 516-741-7304 to arrange a drop off time.
The Ethical Society is located at 38 Old Country Road, between Herricks Road and Mineola Boulevard. This event is free and open to the public.
The Ethical Humanist Society of Long Island welcomes newcomers of all faiths, color, sexual orientations, and nationalities: anyone who agrees that we all need to help to make this a better, more ethical world.
