(Long Island, NY) On Thursday, September 17, 2015, at 12:00 p.m., the Central American Refugee Center (CARECEN), Citi Community Development, United Way of Long Island, Bethpage Federal Credit Union, the New York State Department of Labor, and the New York State Office for New Americans will honor National Citizenship Day by celebrating the significant contributions immigrants make to Long Island communities — and to highlight the successes of Pathway to Citizenship Long Island, an innovative program that empowers Long Island’s legal permanent residents to attain the economic and civic benefits of citizenship.
Since its launch in April 2014, Pathway to Citizenship LI has assisted 570 individuals with completing their naturalization applications – 97% of whom are living on low- to moderate-incomes. The Citi-supported program also enables its clients to fully participate in New York State’s civic and economic life by helping them get degrees and certifications granted by foreign institutions recognized in the U.S., and increase their financial capability.
