(Long Island, NY) Mohammed Proctor of Flanders today pleaded not guilty to a seven-count indictment charging him with beating his pregnant girlfriend at his Flanders home on August 3, Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota said.

Acting State Supreme Court Justice Mark Cohen set cash bail at $150,000 or $300,000 bond. Ms. Norris, seven and one-half months pregnant, suffered serious physical injuries, including two broken ribs. The female newborn was delivered by caesarean section and she remains hospitalized at Stony Brook University Hospital.
Proctor is charged with two counts of assault in the second degree, two counts of assault in the third degree, one count of criminal obstruction of breathing, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty. Defendants are entitled to a fair trial with the burden on the prosecution to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
