(Long Island, NY) Sally Pope, a Democrat who served on the Southampton Town Council, announced today that she is endorsing Democrat Dave Calone in the race for New York’s 1st Congressional District.
“As a former local elected official, I believe Dave Calone is the right candidate to take on Republican extremist Lee Zeldin and to represent the entire East End in Congress,” said Pope. “Dave has experience helping to create good-paying jobs right here on Long Island, and as head of the Suffolk County Planning Commission he has worked to protect our environment. You only need to talk with him for a few minutes to appreciate the intelligence and experience he brings to public service and the issues we are facing. He makes me hopeful for the future for all of us”
“I am honored by the endorsement of Councilwoman Pope,” said Dave Calone, “and I will continue to work hard to grow Long Island’s economy while preserving our natural resources.”
Dave Calone is also being supported by, among others, Congressman Gregory Meeks, New York State Assemblyman Steve Englebright, County Legislator Sarah Anker from Mt. Sinai, County Legislator Rob Calarco from Patchogue, County Legislator Al Krupski from Cutchogue, the New York State Iron Workers District Council, the New Democrat Coalition in the U.S. House of Representatives, and the Brookhaven Town Democratic Committee Executive Board. Brookhaven makes up 60% of the district’s electorate. The 1st Congressional District is comprised of the towns of Brookhaven, Smithtown, Shelter Island, Southampton, East Hampton, Riverhead and Southold.
