(Long Island, NY) A longtime employee of the Southold Town Justice Court suspected of stealing bail and other monies she was entrusted with will be arraigned in Suffolk County court in Riverhead today, Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota said.
Christine Stulsky of New Suffolk resigned this week from the town court that employed her since 1980.
As the Senior Justice Court Clerk, Stulsky’s duties included the collection and deposit of fines generated by the closure of court cases and the reconciliation and prompt deposit of bail funds.
District Attorney Spota said the analysis of the voluminous paper and electronic records reflecting the suspect’s management of the money continues. “We are fortunate to have in the office meticulous professionals with investigative skills who are trained in forensic accounting and they have found evidence of asset misappropriation in this ongoing investigation,” District Attorney Spota said.
Stulsky will appear before Acting State Supreme Court Justice James Hudson in the county criminal courthouse at approximately 11:00 am Friday (3/28).
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty. Defendants are entitled to a fair trial with the burden on the prosecution to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
