Andrea Brosnan was appointed treasurer in January 2009.
“Almost immediately after her appointment, Ms. Brosnan began taking money by making payments from the village account to pay her personal credit cards, utility bills and cell phone bills,” District Attorney Spota said. “She falsified entries in the village ledger to make the entries appear to be legitimate.”
“There is also evidence Ms. Brosnan secured, without authorization, village gas card accounts to purchase fuel for her own vehicle, and to buy cigarettes, food, and beverages,” the D.A. said.
The New York State Comptroller’s Office conducted an audit of the Village of Old Field’s records, discovering irregularities Brosnan misappropriated more than $50,000 in village funds.
Brosnan, 42, of Thompson Street in Port Jefferson, had previously served as deputy village clerk since May of 2008.
Before District Court Judge Paul Hensley, the defendant today pleaded not guilty to grand larceny in the second degree, falsifying business records in the first degree, defrauding the government, and official misconduct.
Judge Hensley released the defendant on her own recognizance.
Be advised that a charge is merely an accusation and that a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
