(Long Island, NY) On Saturday, September 5, at 10:30 a.m., the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II, the American Airpower Museum, 1230 New Highway Farmingdale NY, will fly a delegation of American POWs liberated at the end of that conflict in order to honor those who were held in harsh and dangerous enemy prison camps. The men will be welcomed aboard a C-47 transport plane similar to those that dropped emergency supplies to their camps after peace was declared. Media is invited to join them. The museum’s permanent POW exhibit will also be re-dedicated by the former prisoners, Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone and other officials.
Among those participating is former POW Bernie Rader, 91 years old and from Freeport, NY, who was among some 149 POWs exchanged under Red Cross auspices during the only prisoner transfer at the height of the conflict.
The re-dedication takes place during the American Airpower Museum’s annual Labor Day Weekend, which this year celebrates the milestone anniversary of the end of WWII with a family oriented program for all ages.
WHEN: Saturday, September 5th at 10:30 a.m.
