(Long Island, NY) Village of Freeport Mayor Robert Kennedy, Nassau County Legislator Laura Curran of the Public Safety Committee, former New York Rising Director Jon Kaiman and Freeport Housing Authority Chairman Dr. Joseph Cattano will join local residents who were devastated by Super-Storm Sandy in a press conference to announce a new, multi-million dollar public housing complex, Thursday, March 3, 2016 at 11:00 a.m., Merrick Road between Buffalo and Albany Avenue in Freeport, NY.
As a result of the hurricane, flooding of over 20 feet of water forced these families from their homes for many weeks and the structure never fully recovered. Hundreds of local residents were without electricity and gas for weeks following the storm.
The project is being administered and constructed by the Freeport Housing Authority. The new development, like the current structure, will be named for the late Moxey Rigby who was the first African-American Judge appointed in Nassau County and a Freeport native.
Plans for the new state-of-the-art housing facility, which is going to be built across the street from the existing complex, will be unveiled at the news conference with local community and civic leaders attending.
The project is being made possible through Federal and State funding as well as assistance from the Governor’s Office of Storm Recovery and the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
