(Long Island, NY) It’s Carl for Legislature! The Nassau County Democratic Committee nominated Carl Gerrato as their candidate for the 8th legislative district. Carl is a lifelong resident of the district,which includes portions of Franklin Square, West Hempstead, Elmont, New Hyde Park, Floral Park, Bellerose, Bellerose Terrace and the Village of Stewart Manor.
“I am proud to accept the nomination of the Democratic Party for the Nassau County Legislature.As your Nassau County Legislator I will be an end to the rubber stamp in Mineola,stated Gerrato. I will work towards ending the practice borrowing money to pay off a runaway budget of over 1-billion dollars. I will work with communities to bring down property taxes, while preserving and protecting our schools and suburban quality of life. I believe a good government is and must be a transparent one. Furthermore, as a son of a veteran, I believe that every veteran needs an advocate at the legislature, and I want to be that person,”concluded Gerrato.

Carl is a current Nassau County Correction Officer who has worked and volunteered in public safety for over 30 years. Most recently, he advocated for returning the 5thPolice precinct to full operation. He serves in various leadership positions in the Franklin Square Civilian Patrol and believes that active involvement in our communities and government is critical to successful and safe communities.
Carl and his wife Cathy, a licensed clinical social worker, have 5 children ages 28, 26, 25, 23, 8 and a 2 year old grandson. Carl is a lifelong Nassau County resident who family dates back to the 1920’s. He attended local schools and graduated from Sewanhaka High School. During his time at Sewanhaka he started his lifelong service to the community by joining the Elmont Fire Department Explorer Post 709 serving as Vice President. In high school, he served in the school’s Fire Patrol assisting school staff during fire drills. Upon graduation, Carl joined the Franklin Square – Munson Fire Department. During his 27 year tenure in the fire service Carl several terms as Lieutenant and Captain. Carl served as advisor to the department’s youth program, Explorer Post 710 that encourages local youth to become a volunteer in their community. Carl obtained his Emergency Medical Technician certification, which because of his training, he was, award a Life Saving Award by the Nassau County Sheriff’s Department after an Inmate was found in respiratory arrest.
Carl has been active in his community for most of his life, and is/has been active with; The Franklin Square Civilian Patrol, Save the 5thPrecinct, Sons of the American Legion Squadron 44, Kiwanis of Franklin Square, The Nassau County Parade Officials, Den Leader for Cub Scout Pack 372, The Franklin Square – Munson Fire Department, The Franklin Square Historical Society, Sons of Italy, 14thBrigade 1stBattalion 71stregiment Military Police Detachment NY Guard, Fraternal Order of Police, The Citizen’s Budget Advisory Committee, The Nassau County Sheriff’s Correction Officers Benevolent Association, The Nassau County Sheriff’s Department Columbia Association, Fireman’s Association of the State of New York The Nassau County Drill Team Captain’s Association, and is a Member of the Nassau County Fireman’s Association
