(Long Island, NY) Temple Beth Sholom and Rabbi Ario & Tess Hyams Judaica Museum, 401 Roslyn Road, Roslyn Heights NY, kicks off the temple’s 65 Anniversary, yearlong celebration, with the Opening of a New Exhibit Titled: “PRAYER – For the Healing of Body and Soul” on Wednesday, September 9th 6-9pm.
This 3 month Show is Free and Open to the Public beginning Thursday September 10, 2015 and ending November 27, 2015. The Judaica Museum Hours are Monday – Wednesday 10-5, Late Night is Thursday 10-8 and Friday 10-2.

The exhibit will present two renowned Long Island Fine Artists Lawrence Schloss an Abstract Sculptor, who works in wood and stone and George Schulman, a Contemporary Fine Artist known for his wildly colorful, kinetic and exuberant Paintings Judaic Series including War and Peace and “54” Acrylics on Canvas, Linen and Board some with 24 Kt Gold and Mixed Media Works using Hand Made Paper made from discarded collected materials and buttons and hand sewn to honor his Great Grandfather a Cantor, his Grandparents who reared him, a Tailor and Seamstress who made Suits and Wedding Dresses.
Artists Statements:
- Lawrence Schloss – “My sculptures of stone and wood speak to the inherent beauty and power of these materials. The sculptures often take months, some even years, to complete. The process I use to create my sculptures is deeply personal and often physically demanding; sculpturing rock and wood into powerful aesthetic statements requires absolute devotion…”
- George Schulman – “I love to paint. To understand anything you must live with it, you must observe it; you must know all its content, its nature, its structure, its movement. One of the most difficult things in the world is to look at things simply. In the end it’s a lifelong process, so you need innocence, humility and courage…”
On Wednesday Evening September 9 6-9 PM, the Museum Opens to a Festive “Invitation Only” Gala.
Invited Guests include Gold Coasts Art Collectors, Enthusiasts, and Luminaries in The Arts and Entertainment, Science and Technology, Politician’s, Publications and Taste Makers, who live to love and laugh on Long Island. The evening’s entertainment will feature Classical Music with Christine Smith Pianist and James Acampora Cellist.
One the Temple Beth Sholom proudest achievements began in 1968, when a committee was appointed to establish The Rabbi Ario & Tess Hyams Judaica Museum. For the 20+, Temple Member, Israeli born, passionate about Judaic Art and Artifacts Bat-Sheva Slavin, has taken the role as Curator.
Bat-Sheva is also Curator of the Alan and Helene Rosenberg Jewish Discovery Museum at the Suffolk Y Jewish Community Center in Commack, a hands-on Museum, where children and their families experience the joy and fun of learning about Jewish life, history, values, traditions and its heroes.
