(Long Island, NY) Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center and St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center have been ranked a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures® by The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of health care organizations in the U.S. They are among just 29 hospitals in New York state to earn such designation out of more than 3,300 U.S. hospitals evaluated. The ratings are based on an aggregation from the accountability measure data reported to The Joint Commission during the 2014 calendar year.
“We strive for the utmost quality for the benefit of our patients. The Joint Commission’s ranking recognizes our hospitals’ extraordinary level of commitment to sustaining quality health care across a wide spectrum of performance measures,” said CHS Senior Vice President for Medical Affairs and Chief Medical Officer Patrick M. O’Shauhnessy, DO. “Everyone at CHS is proud of the patient care teams at Good Samaritan and St. Catherine.”
Earning a place on the Top Performers list, St. Catherine and Good Samaritan received this recognition for heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, surgical care, stroke and perinatal care measures. Both hospitals achieved performance of 95% or above on a single, composite score that includes all the accountability measures in data reported to The Joint Commission, for every one of which each hospital also met a 95% performance threshold, excluding any measures with fewer than 30 eligible cases or patients.
CHS’s other hospitals are equally committed to patient safety and quality services. All six hospitals have The Joint Commission Gold Seal of Approval® and earned a place in the top 12% of U.S. hospitals using electronic medical records, as recognized by the Health Information and Management System Society. St. Charles Hospital, Mercy Medical Center and St. Catherine were all awarded an “A”, the top grade for patient safety, in the fall 2015 Hospital Safety Score, administered by The Leapfrog Group. St. Francis Hospital earned a place among the Best Hospitals, as ranked by U.S. News & World Report for 2015-2016, the only one on Long Island to be top-rated nationally for cardiology and heart surgery. And, St. Joseph Hospital received the 2015 CHS Pinnacle Award for Quality & Patient Safety.
