(West Islip, NY) Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in radiation oncology by the American College of Radiology (ACR). The Department of Radiation Oncology at Good Samaritan Hospital is responsive to patients’ concerns. This accreditation demonstrates the medical center’s commitment to excellence and patient satisfaction through the use of highly qualified staff, suitable equipment and strict adherence to safety assurance and guidelines.
The department, led by board certified, university-trained physicians, offers a support staff of experienced, specialized oncology certified registered nurses, certified radiation therapists who are specialists in the delivery of radiation treatments, certified PhD and master’s level physicists, and certified dosimetrists. Staff offer the highest quality of individual care with compassion, dignity and respect, and provide both inpatient and outpatient therapeutic services to adult and geriatric patients.
“Our staff is dedicated to providing excellent care, using the most up-to-date technology, for cancer patients,” said Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center’s Chairman of the Department of Radiation Oncology Johnny Kao, MD. “This recognition attests to our commitment to improving long-term outcome for these patients.”
Good Samaritan Hospital is also accredited by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer and earned the Commission on Cancer’s Outstanding Achievement Award. The hospital is the only facility in New York State in three consecutive surveys to receive this award nine years in a row, and one of just six facilities in the state to earn this honor in 2012. These programs are focused on prevention, early diagnosis, pretreatment evaluation, staging, optimal treatment, rehabilitation, surveillance for recurrent disease, support services and end-of-life care.
In addition, Good Samaritan Hospital earned its second three-year/full accreditation designation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC). NAPBC designation, administered by the American College of Surgeons, is given only to those facilities that have voluntarily committed to provide the highest level of quality breast care and that undergo a rigorous evaluation process and review of their performance.
