(Sayville, NY) Assemblyman Andrew Garbarino (R,C,I-Sayville) applauded Gov. Cuomo, who recently signed legislation that restores $90 million in funding for people with developmental disabilities that was cut from the original 2013-2014 budget. The move ensures that people with developmental disabilities and their families will have the services they need to maintain their quality of life.
“I am very pleased that this much-needed funding has been restored,” said Garbarino. “Our commitment to this valuable population is necessary, as these are among the most vulnerable citizens in our state. The restored funds are crucial to ensuring safety and quality of life for the developmentally disabled. I am hopeful that this legislation will lead to new ideas and programs to improve conditions in New York for people with developmental disabilities.”
Garbarino has been a vocal advocate for the restoration of these cuts since they were made in the budget process in March, and voted in favor of an amendment that would have restored the cuts.
“This legislation is a perfect example of how working together will yield the best outcome for New Yorkers. I am hopeful that this will lead to further collaboration with the ultimate goal of making New York State the best place to live, work and raise a family,” concluded Garbarino.
Assemblyman Garbarino represents the 7th Assembly District on Long Island.
