(Long Island, NY) For over a quarter century now, Governor’s Comedy Club has brought laughs to Long Island by showcasing some of the brightest comedic talents in the world on stage at its original Levittown location, and now with its sister locations- The Brokerage in Bellmore (since 2007), and McGuires of Bohemia (since 2010). Since their start, comic legends like Jerry Seinfeld, Jay Leno, Andrew “Dice” Clay and Eddie Murphy have all graced their stage, as well as the likes of Louis CK, Jamie Foxx, Tracy Morgan, Kevin James, Lewis Black, Adam Ferrara, Dave Attell, and even Howard Stern. In 2014 the comedy brand spawned its very own radio show “Mulrooney In the Morning” with John Mulrooney on Govs Radio.com.

Since its beginnings in the early 1980’s and subsequent survival through the “Comedy-Club Boom” of the 80’s through mid-90’s, the seats at Governor’s have continued to fill with comedy lovers of all shapes, sizes, backgrounds, and with the addition of Senior Comedy Luncheons, After-Prom Shows, and Kids Daytime Comedy Shows it seems all ages as well. From both well-known headlining acts like recent shows from Sebastian Maniscalco, Saturday Night Live alum Colin Quinn, Gilbert Gottfried and local home-grown comics who got their start gracing the stage like Bob Nelson, Joey Kola, Rosie O’Donnell, Larry Miller, Jim Breuer, and Ray Romano– the Governor’s brand has brought the laughs for over a quarter of a century!

Throughout its long history, Gov’s has hosted too many great events to count in all three locations; which are also available for rentals, parties, benefits and fundraising events. In 2010, they sponsored the “Locked, Loaded, and Laughing Out Loud Comedy Tour” which brought Mulrooney, Richie Minervini, Vinnie Mark, and Co-Owner Mark Lund to Iraq, Qatar, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates to entertain U.S. Troops. Lund, who is also a U.S. Army Vet, had also organized a family-friendly variety show in which attendees donated field items to the troops in exchange for lunch and a show. He said of the experience “When the opportunity presented itself, I didn’t even hesitate,” adding “My partners [at the club] told me it was a once in a lifetime opportunity”.

Yet another unique aspect of Governor’s, The Brokerage, and McGuire’s is what they offer to aspiring cut-ups both on and off the stage: their “Comedy College” in Levittown and Bohemia, and “Stand-Up University” inBellmore
Comedy College, which started in 2001 is taught by founder and instructor John Trueson, who has over 20yrs of stand-up experience, managed NYC’s Gotham comedy club, and was a talent evaluator for the NYC auditions of NBC’s “Last Comic Standing”. Trueson teaches the basics of stand-up; including writing material, presentation and delivery, dealing with the crowd, emceeing shows, comedy club etiquette, and the business of stand-up comedy. Following the course, participants also get the privilege of performing TWO shows on one of the three legendary Governor’s locations. Besides being an instructor, Trueson also books acts, directs all in-house marketing, and performs regularly at the clubs as well as being a constant source of information for the Governor’s staff. His “Comedy College” has spawned a number of successful graduates who went on to professional careers including John Ziegler, who was named “The Funniest Comic on The East Coast” in a 2015 competition at Connecticut’s Mohegan Sun. Additionally, “Stand-Up University” is taught by comics Peter Bales,Rich Walker, and Steve Lazarus.
