(Long Island, NY) The Nassau County Police report the arrest of a Great Neck man for Driving While Intoxicated with a child in the car (Leandra’s Law) which occurred on Sunday, July 12, 2015 at 3:39 a.m. in Great Neck.
According to police officers, Jaime Salazar, 28, was operating a 2004 Chevy Blazer when he was pulled over for a vehicle and traffic stop on Udall Drive. During the investigation it was determined that Salazar was intoxicated and placed under arrest. At the time of the arrest his wife and 22 month old male child were in proper restraints in the rear of the vehicle. The child was released to the mother at the scene.

Salazar is charged with Aggravated Driving Intoxicated (Child 15), Driving While Intoxicated, Driving While Intoxicate (BAC + .08 Misd.), Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. He will be arraigned on Sunday, July 12, 2015 at First District Court in Hempstead.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty. Defendants are entitled to a fair trial with the burden on the prosecution to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
