(Long Island, NY) Whenever local law enforcement officers and their families need help, the Greater Long Island Running Club and David Lerner Associates are quick to respond.
On Tuesday evening, March 1st, GLIRC and DLA were privileged to be able to present a check in the amount of $2500 to Nassau County 3rd Precinct Police Officer Phil Roberts and his family. Officer Roberts has a very rare form of cancer (Synovial Sarcoma) in his lungs, and has been through multiple surgeries and ongoing chemotherapy. Sadly, Officer Roberts has been unable to work since 2014 as a result of his condition. The check was presented to Officer Roberts, his wife Lori and son Nico at a fundraiser hosted by the Nassau County Police Benevolent Association at Your Mother’s House in Garden City Park.

On Thursday evening March 3rd, GLIRC and DLA were privileged to be able to present a check in the amount of $3000 to Nassau County 7th Squad Detective James “J” Dobbs and his family. Detective Dobbs has served NCPD since May of 2008, starting out working patrol in the 5th Precinct and became a Detective assigned to the 7th Squad in September of 2013. J’s wife Jennifer has Stage 4 Breast cancer, and the family has been incurring significant unforseen expenses not covered by insurance and need to assist with their three children ages 6, 9 and 10. The check was presented to Detective Dobbs and his family at a fundraiser hosted by the 7th Squad and the Nassau County Detectives Charitable Foundation at Mulcahy’s in Wantagh.
