(Long Island, NY) Suffolk County Legislature Presiding Officer DuWayne Gregory today issued the following statement on the Legislature’s vote to confirm the appointment of Timothy D. Sini to the position of Commissioner of the Suffolk County Police Department:
“The vast majority of the Suffolk County Police Department’s 2,000-plus officers serve the department with great honor, putting their lives on the line every day to protect our families. They deserve a leader who will help restore public confidence in the department, and I am confident that Tim Sini is that leader. As acting commissioner, Mr. Sini has instituted aggressive changes within the department, including much-needed reforms to the internal affairs bureau. He has also promoted some of Suffolk County’s most respected officers to leadership positions, and he has committed to ensuring women and minorities are better-represented among the department’s ranks. I look forward to the Legislature’s continued work with Mr. Sini to increase both transparency and trust in our department.”
