(West Islip, NY) Good Samaritan Hospital Guilds donated $1,200 to benefit the hospital’s pediatric child life program. The Guilds were among more than 45 charitable organizations selling $5 discount cards for the August 24 charity shopping event, Macy’s “Shop for a Cause,” at the Westfield South Shore Mall.

The Child Life Program, which began in 2003, focuses on making a child’s health care experience more comfortable using tools familiar to them, such as art, play and education. The Child Life Specialists join with the pediatric health care team to promote and support the family’s role in their child’s hospital experience.
Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center is a 537-bed (including 100 nursing home beds), voluntary, not-for-profit hospital located in West Islip. The medical center, which has more than 3,775 employees and 900 physicians on staff, had nearly 28,000 patient admissions and nearly 100,000 emergency department visits in 2012.
