(Long Island, NY) “In this economy, with families struggling to make ends meet, homeowners who are facing foreclosure should know there is assistance available,” said Senator Kemp Hannon (R-Nassau). “The New York State Department of Financial Services (DFS) will bring their mobile van to Uniondale to speak with those who may be at risk for foreclosure to advise them of programs and services available to help them stay in their homes.”
DFS mortgage foreclosure specialists will meet with homeowners in foreclosure, or at risk for foreclosure, from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, April 30 in the Town of Hempstead lot located across the street from the Uniondale Library (400 Uniondale Avenue, Uniondale). No appointments are necessary!
The Foreclosure Relief Unit can:
- Provide information on available federal programs
- Answer inquiries about the foreclosure process
- Assist homeowners in their efforts to obtain loan modifications or other relief
- Take complaints from aggrieved homeowners and seek resolutions with banks and mortgage servers.
“I’m pleased to bring the DFS Van to Uniondale and homeowners should bring any documents relevant to their individual situations, like records of mortgage payments, and correspondence between themselves and their lenders or mortgage servicers,” said Hannon. “Even if you can’t make it to the mobile command center in person, you can still contact DFS for assistance.”
Citizens who are unable to go to the Mobile Command Center are encouraged to call the Department’s Toll-free foreclosure hotline at 1-800-342-3736 between the hours of 8:30 am and 4:30 pm,Monday through Friday. Insurance information is also available on the Department’s website, www.dfs.ny.gov.
