Foreclosure Prevention Specialists Available to Meet Homeowners 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
(Long Island, NY) Senator Kemp Hannon (R-Nassau) is encouraging residents who are having difficulty meeting their mortgage obligations or who are faced with the reality of losing their homes to foreclosure, to please consider free counseling.
The NYS Department of Financial Services Mobile Command Center’s mortgage foreclosure prevention specialists will meet with homeowners from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday July 22, and Thursday July 23 in the parking lot across the street from the Uniondale Public Library (400 Uniondale Avenue, Uniondale). Homeowners should bring with them any documents relevant to their individual situations, such as records of mortgage payments or letters to them from lenders or mortgage servicers.
“In this economy, many families are struggling to make ends meet,” said Senator Hannon. “Homeowners facing foreclosure should know there is help. The Department of Financial Services will have trained specialists on-site to speak with them individually about programs and services that are available to them to help them stay in their homes.”
Foreclosure prevention specialists will meet one-on-one with homeowners to assess where they are in the pre-foreclosure or foreclosure process and provide:
- Information to homeowners about specific loan modification programs which may be available to them;
- Guidance to homeowners on how they can file complaints with the Department so that cases of lender or mortgage servicer abuses, such as predatory lending practices, can be investigated.
Homeowners may also file complaints using the Department website, www.dfs.ny.gov.
Also, information may be obtained by calling the Department’s toll-free foreclosure hotline, 1-800-269-0990 or 518-457-1654, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Additionally, referrals to other free resources are also provided, and homeowners may ask questions about other topics such as bankruptcy, legal aid, debt counseling, and more.
