(Long Island, NY) “When you take care of yourself, you’re taking care of your family,” said Senator Kemp Hannon (R-Nassau). “That’s why I’m joining with the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline and Support Program in their October breast cancer awareness program to encourage women to get mammograms.”
The Breast Cancer Hotline and Support Program is always available to inform residents where to get mammograms and to receive important emotional support.
“October is breast cancer awareness month,” said Hannon. “This is always a good time for women to get mammograms. Often ladies will put their own health on hold as they take care of family members, but now is not the time to neglect their own health.”
In existence for more than three decades, the Adelphi New York Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline and Support Program can be reached at 1-800-877-8077. Callers can get emotional support from the hotline’s specially trained volunteers, most of whom have had breast cancer.
The Hotline is a project of the Adelphi University School of Social Work, and all services are free. For more information, their website is: www.adelphi.edu/nysbreastcancer.
