(Long Island, NY) The First Squad reports the arrest of a Hempstead man for robbery that occurred on Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at 9:21 p.m. in Freeport.
According to detectives, Michael Everett, 55, was observed by store security at Compare Foods located at 111 Merrick Road removing food items and attempting to exit the store without paying for them.

A male security guard, 46, confronted Everett as he exited the store at which time Everett removed a mini meat cleaver from his pants waistband and attempted to strike the guard. A short struggle ensued before the defendant was secured by security personnel. There were no injuries reported.
Everett is charged with Robbery 1st degree. He will be arraigned on Wednesday, July 08, 2015 at First District Court in Hempstead.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty. Defendants are entitled to a fair trial with the burden on the prosecution to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
