(Long Island, NY) Assemblyman Edward Hennessey (D-Medford) announced that the New York State Tax Relief Commission, which Governor Cuomo unveiled yesterday, will seek to identify ways to reduce the state’s property and business taxes to provide relief to New York’s homeowners and businesses.
“Governor Cuomo’s tax commission is long overdue and I support his effort to work across party lines to reduce taxes, Assemblyman Hennessey said.
In order to provide a fairer tax system, we need to continue working off of last year’s accomplishments:
- Extending the lowest middle-class tax rate in 60 years;
- Reducing energy taxes;
- Providing tax relief for manufacturers; and
- Holding the line on state spending.
“By cutting taxes for homeowners and providing tax credits for businesses, we are creating jobs in our community while helping our local economy succeed,” Assemblyman Hennessey said. “
The Commission’s recommendations will be due by December 6, 2013 for inclusion in the Governor’s 2014 State of the State message, Hennessey noted.
