One-Day Farmers Market Showcases Local Bounty
(Yaphank, NY) Hosted by the Long Island Farm Bureau in conjunction with Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County, the 3rd Annual “Grown on Long Island Day” celebrates the bounty produced and harvested from our local farms, wineries, and waterways.

“Why buy local food products? The best answer is they taste good, but there are many other reasons. Local products move from producer to the table faster which means there is no need to artificially ripen or preserve fruits and vegetables and that means they are healthier. It also means it is better for the environment because there is no transport required, and finally the economics of supporting what is locally grown and produced just make good sense. The movement to eat and drink local, I believe, has finally taken root,” said Assemblyman Edward Hennessey.
