Hennessey: Families First!
(Long Island, NY) The following statement was released today by Assemblyman Edward Hennessey:
“I have to believe that the hard working families who are struggling to send their own children to college will feel betrayed if they see us supporting a plan to fund an education for inmates,” said Assemblyman Hennessey. “Many of those families and their children take on an incredible amount of debt to fund a college education. Others have simply given on up on that dream.
“While the reasoning behind inmates coming out of prison with an education makes a certain kind of sense, we cannot do it with taxpayer money. It is our children and families who deserve the help. They must come first.”
