(Long Island, NY) The Arcos Orchestra will kick off the launch of their new tour with a performance on the Westermann Stage in the Adelphi University Performing Arts Center (AUPAC), located at 1 South Avenue, Garden City on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at 8:00 p.m.
Consisting of outstanding young players from around the world, the Manhattan-based Arcos Orchestra approaches orchestral playing with the chamber musician’s sense of discipline: individual instrumental mastery; in-depth knowledge of the composer’s life & music; and selfless co-operation in service of the composer’s intentions—led by founder and conductor John-Edward Kelly.
Principal violinist and President of the Board for The Arcos Orchestra, Marc Uys, is Adelphi University Music Department’s adjunct instructor in violin and the concertmaster of the Adelphi Symphony Orchestra. He is a very active performer throughout the Tri-State area, playing frequently with area orchestras, chamber ensembles and as soloist.
The Arcos Orchestra is particularly dedicated to discovering and presenting great music of composers whose work is little known. The members of the orchestra understand that the music of our time has grown out of the great music traditions preceding it, and that today’s music can be neither well-performed nor well-received if estranged from its historical context. The Adelphi University Department of Music and the Performing Arts Center are thrilled to bring this dynamic ensemble to the Concert Hall prior to the start of its fourth European tour. The program includes works by Antonin Dvo?ák, Pehr Henrik Nordgren, Samuel Adler and Dmitri Shostakovich.
Founded in 2005, the Arcos Orchestra was named in 2010 the first-ever Orchestra-in-Residence at New York’s extraordinarily beautiful and historic Temple Emanu-El, located at Fifth Avenue and 65th Street.
