New GreatNonprofits.org Award is Based on Positive Online Reviews
(GLEN COVE, NY) The Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center of Nassau County (“HMTC”) announced today that it has been honored with a prestigious 2013 Top-Rated Award by GreatNonprofits, the leading provider of user reviews about nonprofit organizations.
“We are excited to be named a Top-Rated 2013 Nonprofit,” says Jennifer Carpenter Low, Director of Development, HMTC. “The Center could not operate at the world-class level that it does without the commitment of volunteer educators, Holocaust Survivors and Liberators, and our committed Board of Directors who have steered the HMTC in exciting new directions in programming and outreach. Survivors’ and Liberators’ eye-witness testimony adds efficacy to our work with young people. And, our educational volunteers demonstrate the meaning of being an Upstander.”
The Top-Rated Nonprofit award was based on the large number of positive reviews that the HMTC received – reviews written by volunteers, donors and clients. People posted their personal experience with the nonprofit. For example, one person wrote, “Because of this wonderful institution, I have learned so much about the struggles faced by so many innocent people during this horrific time of history. When I say that is changed my life, I am not exaggerating at all. Walking through its halls, listening to the Survivors tell their inspiring stories, and feeling the presence of the spirits of those who perished so needlessly has made me even more sensitive to bias, racism, and intolerance. The Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center has inspired me to share their message of peace and tolerance with my students.”
The HMTC was part of the inaugural group to qualify as a 2013 Top-Rated Nonprofit.

About the Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center of Nassau County
The Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center of Nassau County is the pre-eminent Holocaust resource on Long Island, with a contemporary museum and is one of the largest and most comprehensive education program providers in the region. Since 2007, nearly 210,000 students, educators, employers and law enforcement personnel have participated in the Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center’s education programs.
Under construction and scheduled to open in January 2014, the Claire Friedlander Education Institute will accommodate four classrooms with state-of-the-art audio-visual aids and cutting edge technical equipment for specialized Holocaust video-conferencing programs and a wide variety of workshops for youth and adults.
With the Louis Posner Memorial Library, the Center offers over 7,000 volumes of Holocaust, genocide, multicultural, anti-bias and anti-bullying material for youth and adults, from Kindergarten through post-graduate researchers.
