(Huntington, NY) The Huntington Summer Arts Festival will kick off next Thursday, June 27th and that’s not the only thing Huntington celebrating! This summer is the 50th Anniversary for the Huntington Arts Council and the 48th year of bringing top performing arts talent to Huntington. Grammy, Emmy and Bessie award winners all summer will hit the Heckscher Park, Chapin Rainbow Stage along with high caliber local and international talent.
The park will come alive with back to back opening nights of local choral flair. Join us Thursday, June 27th for the Huntington Men’s Chorus. With over 100 active singing members, the Huntington Men’s Chorus has been performing for the town’s residents every summer since 1949. Come on down to the park Friday, June 28th for an evening that spans the great classical choral works of the world, musical theatre and original revues The Huntington Choral Society has entertained the Long Island Community since 1962.
Hazmat Modine performs Saturday July 29th, blending elements of early Blues, Hokum Jugband, Swing, Klezmer, New Orleans R & B, and Jamaican Rocksteady into a syncopated, interweaving, rhythmic gumbo. One of the hottest club bands around, Hazmat Modine blasts out a bluesy, brassy, “just gotta boogie” party every time they perform.
Grammy award winner Diane Schuur takes the stage Sunday June 30th and she is as eclectic as she is brilliant! Embracing both jazz and pop music with amazing dexterity and enthusiasm, Schuur’s music has explored nearly every corner of the 20th century American musical landscape.
Tuesday Night Family Series begins July 2nd with Plaza Theatrical Production’s Disney’s “Camp Rock, The Musical”. Based on the hit Disney Channel Original Movies, “Camp Rock, The Musical” will light up the stage with over a dozen songs, including “This Is Me,” “Can’t Back Down,” “It’s On,” and “We Rock.” A classic story of rivalry and power, watch Mitchie rally her fellow Camp Rockers for the ultimate showdown.
Join musical director Tom Gellert on Wednesday, July 3rd with Huntington Community Band as they mark the 150th anniversary of the U.S. Civil War – Battle of Gettysburg. Music this evening focuses on this important event in our nation’s history. Be sure to come to the park early for a celebration of 50 years for the Huntington Arts Council.
The Summer Arts Festival is free and held on the Chapin Rainbow Stage in Heckscher Park, Huntington, at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday– Sunday from June 27th – August 11th. Tuesday evenings are the festivals “Family Series” events and begin at 7:30 p.m. TheSummer Arts Festival is presented by the Town of Huntington and produced by the Huntington Arts Council.
