(Long Island, NY) The Huntington Community First Aid Squad (HCFAS) answered a record number of emergency medical calls in 2015. The previous year’s total, 5593 was surpassed this year with a yearend total of 6016 calls, a 7.56% increase. HCFAS has over 260 volunteer members which are stationed at its headquarters ready to respond immediately when an emergency call is received.
In addition to medical emergencies such as sudden heart attacks, respiratory problems, and motor vehicle accidents, the Squad also provides standby crews at high school football games for Walt Whitman High School, Huntington High and St. Anthony’s High School, graduation ceremonies for these schools, parades such as the St. Patrick’s Day parade and the Memorial Day Parade, fire department parades, the HMFD annual fair and the Celebrate Huntington Festival held each year in Huntington Village.
