(Long Island, NY) Suffolk County Police on Wednesday, December 2 arrested a man for failing to have an interlock device in the vehicle he was using, after he struck a pedestrian in a parking lot in Huntington Station.
Keylor Laporta was driving a 2011 Dodge Ram 1500 when he struck Teresa Kochan in the Target parking lot, located at 124 E. Jericho Tpke. at approximately 7:55 p.m. Kochan, 68, of West Hills, was transported to Huntington Hospital in serious condition with head injuries. Laporta, 24, of Huntington Station, was not injured.

Laporta was charged with Using a Vehicle without an Interlock Device. He will be held overnight at the Second Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on December 3.
The vehicle was impounded for a safety check. The investigation is continuing. Anyone with additional information is asked to call Second Squad detectives at (631) 854-8252.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty. Defendants are entitled to a fair trial with the burden on the prosecution to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
