(Long Island, NY) Two leading specialists in the field of breast cancer and mental health will address the physical and emotional effects of breast cancer chemotherapy, including what is often referred to as “chemo brain.” In a talk to be presented on Wednesday, May 21, from 7 pm to 8:30 pm at Adelphi University, Doctors Nina D’Abreo and Michael Genovese will explore some issues associated with chemotherapy: neurological symptoms, cognitive changes, and emotional and sexual health.
This free talk is open to anyone who has been treated for breast cancer and is a collaboration between Winthrop-University Breast Health Center and the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program.

Nina D’Abreo, MD, is an attending hematologist/oncologist at Winthrop-University Hospital where she is an active member of Winthrop’s Breast Program, the first Nassau County program accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers. She serves on the breast cancer advisory committee, which is dedicated to improving all aspects of breast health, and is responsible for developing the breast clinical trials program. She currently serves as the principal investigator of several cooperative group-sponsored breast cancer clinical trails at Winthrop designed for breast cancer prevention, early stage and metastatic breast cancer and is also initiating local outcomes-based research. Dr. D’Abreo is Assistant Professor Medicine, SUNY at Stony Brook. She has a particular interest in HER2-positive breast cancer and breast cancer survivorship.
Michael V. Genovese, MD, is an attending physician at Winthrop-University Hospital. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and Board Certified by the American Board of Integrative Holistic Medicine. Dr. Genovese is President, Medical Director and Co-Founder of Long Island Mind and Body. His private practice in Garden City, New York focuses on mood and anxiety disorders, depression, insomnia, addiction and medico-legal issues. The practice is among the first in New York to offer Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation for the treatment of depression. In addition to clinical practice, Doctor Genovese is a public lecturer on the topics of psychopharmacology and neuromodulation. He teaches resident physicians and medical students at Winthrop-University Hospital and serves as a consultant to several school districts and private industries.
