Kevin Gomez, Stony Brook ’15, presented with award at the 2015 College Democrats of America convention
(Long Island, NY) It is with great pride and admiration that The College Democrats of New York announce that Kevin Gomez, former CDNY Vice President, was named the College Democrat of the Year at the 2015 College Democrats of America convention. The annual convention, which took place at the University of District Columbia this past weekend, was the largest gathering of College Democrats from across the country this year.
Kevin represented the New York federation, along with nine other delegates from seven different schools. A total of 3 College Democrats from New York were recognized for their exemplary work. Kevin was presented with the prestigious honor at the award ceremony on Saturday which marked the closing of the four day convention in Washington, D.C. The College Democrat of the Year award is given to a College Democrat who demonstrates the utmost commitment, leadership and service in his or her community.
Kevin has exuded these qualities ever since he joined the College Democrats chapter at Stony Brook University his freshman year of college. He was treasurer and vice president before serving as President of the Stony Brook College Democrats his senior year.
Outside of the Stony Brook University community, Kevin was also actively engaged with the College Democrats of New York. He served as Long Island Region Chair and as Vice President during the 2014-2015 term.
Kevin graduated from Stony Brook University this past May with a degree in political science and a minor in biology. A native of Levittown, Kevin will attend The Maurice A. Dean School of Law at Hofstra University in the fall as the LGBT Rights Fellow.
As an affiliate of College Democrats of America, the College Democrats of New York work to empower young progressives and elect Democrats across New York State and the country.
