Incentive Offered to Attract New Patrons to Parks in Their Own Backyard
(Long Island, NY) June 27, 2013 is “Discover Suffolk County Parks Day.” This measure is a pilot program designed to entice Suffolk County residents and visitors to discover the beautiful parks and recreational resources that Suffolk County Parks have to offer.
This resolution introduced by Legislator Jay Schneiderman will allow all visitors to pay the discounted green key card rate at all County Parks. Generally at life-guard supervised beach parks, green key cardholders pay $8 while non-green key cardholders pay $15; and at inland parks green key cardholders pay $6 while non-green key cardholders pay $13.
“In these challenging economic times, many county residents are staying on Long Island instead of vacationing elsewhere during the summer months,” said Legislator Schneiderman, “and there is no better place to enjoy the natural beauty of Long Island than our vast network of parks. We have thousands of acres of parks offering spectacular beaches, beautiful woodlands, camping, fishing and a huge variety of other activities for Long Island residents. What better way to offer residents an introduction to the pleasures of our parks than to offer them a discounted admission fee?”
While visiting the parks, residents are encouraged to inquire about the Suffolk County Parks Green Key card which would allow them to continue to receive discounted rates for parking and other activities year round. Additional discounts are available for Seniors, Veterans, Volunteer Firefighters and Ambulance Personnel, and Active Military Personnel.
Representing the South Fork, Jay Schneiderman is the Suffolk County Legislator for the Second Legislative District. For more information, or to arrange an interview, please call (631) 852-8400.
