Kaelyn Ward East Hampton High School Basketball Player Honored
(Long Island, NY) At the Suffolk County Legislature general meeting on March 5, 2013, at the Riverhead County Center, Legislator Jay Schneiderman (I-Montauk) honored Kaelyn Ward, a Lady Bonacker at East Hampton High School for becoming the first East Hampton High school female basketball player to score 1,000 points.

During the seventh game of the basketball season Kaelyn scored 11 points against the Shoreham High School Wildcats, hitting the benchmark. Along with the previous teams East Hampton faced, the opposing team from Shoreham was aware Kaelyn was dangerously close to her 1,000th career point and were working tirelessly on not having her reach the mark on their watch. When Ms. Ward hit the magic number, her teammates and family ran out onto the court to congratulate her, and the gym erupted. Ms. Ward credited her coach with inspiring her to achieve her goal, Head coach Howard Wood, broke 1,000 points when he was a Bonacker.
