(Long Island, NY) The Long Island Music Hall of Fame is now cosponsoring “Music By and For Students”, a program established by the Long Island Composers Alliance which features original compositions and performances by Long Island students and will be held at Hofstra University on May 27th, 2016 in coordination with Herbert A. Deutsch, President, Long Island Composers Alliance, First Music Educator of Note, LIMHOF. Professor Emeritus, Hofstra University.
Every year since 1973, the Long Island Composers Alliance (LICA) has presented a concert of original compositions written and performed by Long Island students. This celebration of young players and composers has become one of LICA’s most popular events. We are proud to say that the “Music By and For Students” has become the model for two state-wide NYSSMA student composition programs and is now co-sponsored by the Long Island Music Hall of Fame.
Works to be performed will be selected by composer members of LICA. In addition to the performance, there will be prizes for outstanding compositions. $50 will be presented to the student composers in three age categories. These categories depend upon the number of compositions accepted for the concert and the ages of the students entering. The age categories will be approximately 11 and under, 12 to 15 and 15 and older. The works will be judged by the LICA Program Committee and the three most outstanding award winners will also perform their works at the Long Island Composers Alliance Professional Anniversary Concert on June 5.
“The Long Island Music Hall of Fame is excited to work together with the LI Composers Alliance. They are an organization that is deeply rooted in the music history of Long Island and one that commands tremendous respect through the music education field”, says Tom Needham, LIMHoF Board member and Education Committee Chairman.
