In Support of Substance Abuse Prevention Programs
(Long Island, NY) The Long Island Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, Inc. (LICADD) held its 35thAnnual R. Brinkley Smithers Golf Invitational Monday and brought in more than $200,000to support its life-saving substance abuse prevention programs and comprehensive addiction services.

More than 100 golfers teed-off at The Creek in Locust Valley where 200 dinner guests gathered in support of LICADD. Event emcee and auctioneer Tom Suozzi began the Diamonds in the Rough Reception and Dinner at the Creek with a warm welcome. He spoke of the critical needs of youth and families on Long Island and the services that LICADD offers to address the growing crisis of abuse, addiction and drug-related fatalities in our communities.

LICADD Board Chair Jeffery Capazzi explained the appeal of the R. Brinkley Smithers Golf Invitational, “it is wonderful to be involved in organizing this event, especially when the need for proven drug and alcohol support is so evident and continues to escalate each year.”
“The support of our event chairs, Bill Baum, Michael Brennan and Jeffery Capazzi, and the generosity of our donors and volunteers at this event means so much to us, as the proceeds of the tournament will directly fund programs that provide hope and healing to at-risk individuals and the families that support them,” explained Executive DirectorSteve Chassman. “It is because of their efforts that LICADD remains the go-to agency in the midst of this public health epidemic and continues to develop effective and innovative programs to combat addiction.”
