(Long Island, NY) Helping to kick off this year’s Civil War Weekend re-enactment—one of the biggest on Long Island are Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter and local historians Frank Grasso, president of the Greater Sayville Chamber of Commerce and president of the John C. Dunphy Private Foundation.
The foundation will be announcing a major donation toward the $1 million restoration of the Islip Grange, a 12-acre collection of pre-Civil War buildings that are in various stages of disrepair. As many as 6,000 people are expected to attend the Civil War Weekend, which begins with a Friday night showing of the film, “The Civil War,” and continues on Saturday with reicreated encampments and battles involving 50 re-enactors.
