(Long Island, NY) Last Friday, February 12, Assemblymen Chad Lupinacci (R,C,I- South Huntington) and Andrew Raia (R,C,I-East Northport) held an Opioid Overdose Prevention Program and Naloxone Training Class. This class was held in conjunction with Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone and the Suffolk County Department of Health Services.
“This event proved that our community is united in the fight against opioid addiction,” Lupinacci said. “Each individual who participated in the meeting left with the tools and knowledge to save a life and give a person struggling with addiction a second chance. I was proud to join Assemblyman Raia and the Suffolk County Department of Health to spread the word about the lifesaving potential of Naloxone.”

A crucial aspect of this event was the Naloxone Training Class. Naloxone, the drug that has shown to reverse overdoses from opioids, is now widely available in more than 1,100 pharmacies throughout New York State. Those at risk of an opioid overdose or their family members may purchase naloxone in pharmacies without a prescription.
“I am very pleased with the turnout we had for the event,” said Raia. “The large turnout is indicative of the opioid problem in our neighborhoods. It also shows how the members of our community are banding together and combating this disease by learning how to use Naloxone to save lives. I am proud to be part of the effort to help those who suffer from opioid addiction, and I am impassioned by the positive response from our community.”
